Variable-frequency drives, also known as adjustable-speed drives (ASD) and AC inverters, are widely used in HVAC systems, pumps and conveyors. A VFD controls the rotational speed of an alternating current (AC) electric motor by adjusting both the voltage and frequency of the electrical power supplied to the motor.
